How does Underground Fencing work?

You simply design the area you wish to contain your pet in by burying a wire 3-4 inches deep in your yard, and hook the wire up to a transmitter unit. The transmiiter plugs into a standard wall outlet and continously emits a radio signal that travels along the buried wire. The lightweight receiver collar is worn by your pet and when he approaches the underground boundary you have designated, the receiver will alert him as he nears the wire. If you are interested in our PROFESSIONAL GRADE heavy duty wire upgrade, look for models with the black wire spool in the picture or a "Heavy-Duty Wire" description. We recommend using the wire upgrade if you are installing above ground or in rocky soil, have a lot of fast growing tree roots or just want the added security of an extra heavy duty wire. Our PROFESSIONAL GRADE heavy duty 18 gauge single strand copper wire is a specialty product and cannot be found in pet or hardware stores.

There are now several 'Professional' brand containment systems available and these can only be purchased through installing dealers. These systems start at a base price of $1,000.00 for just a small yard and can exceed several thousand dollars depending on the size of your yard; and with the purchase of additional receivers if you have more than one pet to contain in your family. Many of these systems require that the correction levels on the receiver collar can only be adjusted by the installing dealer, which can result in not only inconvenience but additional charges. Which System should you get?

The PetSafe Deluxe Little Dog Fence - is perfect for your smaill dog weighing as little as 5 pounds. This system is perfect for miniture and toy breeds with all the benefits and features of the traditional systems for larger breeds.

We highly recommend the Deluxe Ultralight Receiver for virtually every dog that weighs 8 pounds or over. With five adjustable levels of correction, this is the most versatile and advanced lightweight receiver. You can easily increase or decrease the level of correction to meet your particular pet's training needs. The PUL-275 Deluxe Ultralight Receiver also features a low battery indicator light to let you know when it is time to replace the battery.

If your dog is 8 lbs. or over and is easily trained, you may want the PUL-250 Ultralight receiver. This Ultralight receiver only has one level of correction and does not have the low battery indicator light feature.

If you have a dog weighing over 50 pounds and is somewhat stubborn or hard to train, we would recommend the Stubborn Dog Receiver, or the PRF-275. A small percentage of dogs actually require this receiver. We have found that the larger breeds such as Akitas, Huskies, Chows and occasionally Labs and German Shepherds may need the Stubborn Dog Receiver. This receiver also has a vibration feature in addition to the tone to get your pets attention when he is approaching the boundary area. This receiver has 5 adjustable levels of correction and uses a standard 9-volt battery.
