Riley
December 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
This is Riley - who is a rescued Irish Setter. We adopted Riley when he was 7 months old; he was found wandering around a gas station eating out of garbage cans. He's now 2½ and gets more amazing every day. Riley and his brother Doc (our rescued English Setter) love to play and run around chasing those pesky chipmunks. Riley loves squeaky toys, and he won't stop until he's quieted that squeaker! He gets excited about car rides, because he's usually going to our cabin where he can run and run. He's a real talker and rooer, and his nickname is RooRoo.
Riley
November 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
Just look at our bad boy, Riley. He was signed over to the humane society at the age of 8 months for being vicious. I had fostered Miniature Schnauzers in the past so he joined my 3 pack of therapy dogs—and he desperately needed rehab. He would not make eye contact. He was fearful. He attacked imaginary foes or human ankles. He was toy aggressive. He would totally shut down when on a leash. He is quite vocal and has one volume—LOUD. I credit my (then) two year old grandson for inspiring me on how to approach Riley’s new lease on life. The dog loved this kid, which told me Riley’s issues were manmade—dominant approaches got bad results. Riley is a permanent member of our family and has come a very long way. He is a funny character and quite lovable. He is still a work in progress if he gets over-stimulated but I’m confident he will learn self-control. My goal for him is to also become a registered therapy dog. It may take some time, but he’s worth it!
Butch
October 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
We are part of the Springer Spaniel Rescue foster parents group. This is Butch. He came to us from a shelter in Blackfoot, ID, where he had been since he was eight weeks old. Butch is now ten months and a bushel of wiggles. He loves to play with his many toys and can spend hours chasing them in the back yard. He also loves to chew momma's shoes. But she has become so fond of him that he will probably join our 12 years old Springer. Butch hates to be alone, so while the big brother sleeps on the bed, he has found his night time place right alongside the bed. Butch loves to ride in the back seat of the pickup, and his gone 600 miles with his dad, without entering a protest. Butch has watched other foster brothers and sisters come and go to their new forever homes. He thinks he like it here. He is adapting to his new training schedule. He is full of life and is much too fast for this older brother to keep up with. He has been a bundle of joy and to our delight, has settled into our lives very well.
Clowie
September 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
It was one year ago on Mother's Day I got a call from my mother-in-law. One of her outside cats had kittens and she was sure one was deaf. If this was indeed the case, there is no way she would survive outside. We went over there and after various non-scientific "tests", we concluded that she was truly deaf. We researched all about deaf kittens, learned how to use signs for simple commands such as no, down and come. We have not regretted this decision at all. We named her Clowie because it appears she has a "clown" face. Clowie is acutely aware of smells and vibrations. She has been such a joy to have. Because of her deafness, her instinct is to protect herself so she never turns her back to anyone or anything when she eats. She eats from the other side of the bowl. (Which is really funny because our only other cat is a paraplegic who couldn't attack her if he wanted to!) Also because of her instinct, she feels the need to be up high. We often find her on top of the entertainment center, on top of the microwave stand, curio cabinet or iguana enclosure. So, if you ever get the opportunity to have a deaf cat, don't be afraid to.
Karma
August 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
This is Karma, my St. Bernard. Karma was a rescue at 10 mts old and was a skinny frightened puppy. After some hard work and lots of love, she became one of the family, keep in mind the family was 2 other Saints and a Yellow Labrador. Karma had severe aggression towards other female dogs to the extreme. It kept us from going to the dog park or leaving her alone with the 2 other female dogs in the house. One year later she is a social and happy dog with the sweetest personality you could ask for.
Baley
July 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
This is my crazy friend Baley!!
This is a picture of Baley at Bark in the Park in Turner Field. Baley is a wonderful dog who enjoys Braves Games, anything that resembles food and tug-o-war. He makes the weirdest whiny noise when he wants to go outside, so he sounds like a chirping bird and he has the biggest underbite in the world, all combining to make him the cutest dog ever. The poor guy tore his ACL in both of his back legs at the age of two and had to have surgery on one of them last December. Luckily his surgery went wonderful and he is back to his old chasing squirrels self, although with only 3 completely good legs instead of 4.
Roscoe
June 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
Hi ya'll. My name is Roscoe. I'm a young southern gentleman with a heart of gold, the most beautiful brown eyes, shiny black nose and a blue-black tongue. I was part of a large litter and I was the last one left to be adopted. Boy, was that my lucky day when my parents came to pick me up. I'm so loved and pampered, really spoiled rotten.
My favorite people are my Momma, Daddy and anyone who I can get to stop and give me a good scratch. My favorite things are trying to catch the fish in the gold pond, chasing squirrels, stealing chewy toys from my sister, and barking hello to every dog that passes by.
Squeaky
May 2010 Pet of the Month Winner
Hi! My name is Squeaky. I am 4 months old. I appeared on my owner's carport one rainy morning about 3 months ago. They loved me so much when they saw me; they gave me a home with the five other cats and seven dogs. I love it here! My best pal is Ladybug, a 4 year old chocolate Lab. I love to play in the flowerbed and watch the birds in the trees. I had an operation two weeks ago so I couldn't have babies. I have enough family already.
